I'm on a bit of a personal development kick lately and let me tell ya--I have NO idea why people knock self-help books so hard. I love them! I bought an audible account through Amazon in February and have been racing through books on it since then. I have a commute to work of about 20 minutes each way now. I like that instead of just listening to the radio, I feel like I'm bettering and inspiring myself for 40 minutes every day. It's been a great way to frame my state of mind first thing in the morning, and put my day away in the afternoon.
Here are some that I've read lately:
You Are A Badass-Jen Sincero
Better Than Before-Gretchen Rubin
Girl Code-Cara Alwill Leyba
I Am That Girl-Alexis Jones
You Are A Badass is an awesome book for anyone trying to reframe their purpose in life and how KICK ASS. I have taken a lot of Jen's advice to heart since starting this book and it's worked really well for me. I love her opinions on manifesting the life you want. So fantastic. Plus, it's hilarious.
Better Than Before is a solid book for anyone trying to make or break habits. When I heard my family talking about this book, I remembering thinking "Oh, how exciting. A book about habits. Yay." I was so wrong! This book has such practical advice and talks about habits in a way I haven't heard of before. Did you know that you're more likely to stick with certain choices based on your personality type? Gretchen walks you through these different personality types and how to make things stick--even for those of us who really struggle with it.
Girl Code is one of my favorite books I have EVER read. Cara is a no BS person who gives it to you straight, but also inspires you. As someone embarking on a new business and trying to build something that's bigger than me, this book really stuck. I also love her opinions on girls sticking up for other girls--we are stronger together and she drives this home. If you're looking for a book that inspires you to be your best, authentic, female self: THIS IS IT.
I'm currently reading I Am That Girl and I'm LOVING it. Alexis has such an authentic voice and inspires her readers. I can't wait to tell you all more when I get a little bit further along. :)
