What's so fascinating to me about education is that there are so many different ways to learn and so many different ways to absorb information. When I first heard that I'd be writing blog posts for a class in my program, I chuckled a bit. "I do this all the time!" I thought. "What else could I possibly learn about blogging?" Turns out, I learned much more than I thought I would.
It wasn't so much that I learned about blogging. I learned about HOW people absorb information through digital content. How cool is that?! There are so many ways to learn and process what the world can teach us. I never realized how much information I took in via digital media until this semester. I look to Pinterest for new recipe ideas, YouTube for how-to videos, Wikipedia for quick facts that I need to familiarize myself with. It's become almost second nature to us in 2016.
More than anything, this course showed me that there is a possibility to reach untapped potential in learners by using a medium most people are comfortable with--the internet. The blogosphere in particular is exciting for me since it operates more like a community than anything else. You can be a part of the information you are giving and receiving, not just passively listening to someone dictate information to you.
I will absolutely be taking the skills that I gathered in this course with me throughout the rest of my professional career. I'm particularly excited to use different methods of digital learning in my personal teaching.
